Contents
In short: from 18 October 2026 the occupational medicine doctor (lekarz medycyny pracy) issues the certificate that you are fit for the job (orzeczenie lekarskie) in electronic form only. This is required by the Polish Health Ministry regulation of 20.03.2026 (Dz.U. 2026 poz. 456): the six-month transition period ended on 17 October. The medical check itself does not change. The certificate appears in your Internetowe Konto Pacjenta (IKP, the online patient account), and if you ask, the doctor must give you a printout with their signature.
What has changed
| Until 17.10.2026 | From 18.10.2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Form of the certificate | Paper or electronic, the doctor's choice | Electronic only. Paper only when the system cannot be accessed (and for officers of some special services) |
| Where to find it | A paper form in your hands | In IKP: «Dane medyczne» → «Medycyna pracy», downloadable as a PDF |
| A paper copy for you | Given | A printout on your request, signed by the doctor |
| How the employer gets it | A paper form | From the occupational medicine clinic, when and how their contract says |
The medical check itself does not change: same scope, the doctor examines you in person.
What it means for you
- The referral (skierowanie) for the medical check is still issued by the employer.
- Without a valid certificate the employer may not let you start work. So the medical check is one of the first steps in a new job.
- No access to IKP? Ask the doctor for a printout. By law they must give it and sign it by hand.
- The employer gets the certificate from the clinic. If they ask, you can also send them the PDF from IKP yourself.
- Some jobs also need a sanitary certificate (sanepid). For example, salad packing: the employer requires it for work with food.
How to find the certificate in IKP
IKP is a free personal patient account on pacjent.gov.pl and in the mojeIKP app. You can log in, for example, with a Profil Zaufany (trusted profile). The certificate is in «Dane medyczne» → «Medycyna pracy», where you can also see until when it is valid. If it is not there after your check, ask the clinic where you had it. According to pacjent.gov.pl, certificates issued before 18 October may not appear in IKP: clinics were not yet required to send them there.

Frequently asked questions
Do I still need to bring a paper certificate to the employer?
The occupational medicine clinic passes the certificate to the employer, as agreed between them. For yourself, you can ask the doctor for a printout or download the PDF from IKP.
Who pays for the medical check?
Under an employment contract (umowa o pracę), the check is paid for by the employer (Article 229 of the Polish Labour Code). Under other contracts, ask the employer in advance.
Can I appeal the certificate?
Yes. You or the employer can appeal within 7 days of receiving the certificate. The appeal goes through the same clinic, which passes it to the regional occupational medicine centre.
Have the tests and the examination changed?
No. Only the form of the certificate changes, and how it reaches you and the employer.
Do I have to pay the agency for help finding a job?
No. All our services are free for you.
