How to check an employment agency in Poland in the KRAZ register and avoid scams

In short: a legal employment agency in Poland must be in the state register KRAZ and show its register number in every job ad. It is not allowed to charge you for finding work in Poland: the fine for that is up to 30,000 zł. Below: how to find an agency in the register, what to check there, which costs the law allows for work abroad, and where to complain.

What KRAZ is

KRAZ (Krajowy Rejestr Agencji Zatrudnienia) is the state register of employment agencies. It is kept by the voivodeship marshals and is open to everyone. Under the labour market act of 20 March 2025, job placement (pośrednictwo pracy) and temporary work (praca tymczasowa) may only be offered after an entry in this register. An agency without an entry operates illegally.

The agency must show its register number in documents, ads and job offers. Temporary work offers must be labelled "oferty pracy tymczasowej".

How to check an agency, step by step

  1. Find the KRAZ number in the adIf it is missing, be careful: the law requires it.
  2. Open the registerstor.praca.gov.pl, the KRAZ section. You can search by company name, register number or NIP (tax number).
  3. Compare the name and NIPThey must match the agency's website and your contract.
  4. Check the statusThe agency must be active. If the marshal has struck it off the register, it may no longer work as an agency.
  5. Check the type of servicePośrednictwo pracy: the agency finds you an employer. Praca tymczasowa: the agency itself signs your contract and sends you to a client company.

For foreigners the law adds protection: an agency that refers a foreigner to work in Poland signs a written contract with them and, before signing, gives them a written translation into a language they understand. The contract must name the employer, the period of work, the type of contract, the working and pay conditions, and social insurance.

What an agency may charge you

The law forbids an agency to take any money from a candidate, with one exception: referral to work abroad with a foreign employer. Then the agency may recover only the costs it actually incurred, and only those written into the contract.

Before you leave for work abroad, the agency must tell you in writing about all costs and payments. Missing or untrue information carries the same fine of 3,000 to 30,000 zł.

Signs of a scam

Stop if

  • you are asked to pay before work starts: "for a visa", "for an invitation", "for a ticket", "for a place". Police in Lower Silesia warn that an honest company does not ask for money before work starts;
  • the ad has no KRAZ number, or the number belongs to a different company in the register;
  • the agency has been struck off the register;
  • you are asked for a scan of your passport or other documents while you are still being recruited. The Łódź regional labour office advises against sending them at this stage;
  • you are not given a written contract with a translation into a language you understand.

Where to turn if you were cheated

  • National Labour Inspectorate (PIP): free phone advice on 801 002 006 (landline) or 459 599 000 (mobile), Mon–Fri 9:00–15:00. Advice in Ukrainian on legal work for Ukrainian citizens: 89 333 17 41 (Mon–Wed) and 22 111 35 88 (Thu–Fri), 9:00–15:00. A complaint to PIP is filed in writing, in person, or by email with an electronic signature.
  • The voivodeship marshal's office keeps the KRAZ register, inspects agencies and can strike an agency off the register.
  • Police, if someone took your money and disappeared.
  • National Consulting and Intervention Centre for Victims of Trafficking (KCIK): +48 22 628 01 20 (24/7), if your documents were taken or you are forced to work.
