How much cash you need to enter Poland: the ministry proposes 1,000 zł and 300 zł a day (draft)

In short: on 14 October 2026 Poland's Interior Ministry (MSWiA) published a draft regulation: a foreigner entering Poland would need at least 1,000 zł for a trip of up to 4 days (now 300 zł) and 300 zł for each day of a longer stay (now 75 zł). It is not law yet: the old amounts still apply. Under the current rules, people entering on a work visa or with a residence card (karta pobytu) do not have to show this money at all.

What is proposed: current and draft amounts

Purpose and length of the tripNow (current regulation of 2015)In the draft
Trip of up to 4 days300 zł1,000 zł
Trip longer than 4 days75 zł for each day300 zł for each day
Organised tour, camp, sports event, prepaid stay, sanatorium, holiday work programme20 zł a day, at least 100 zł130 zł a day, at least 650 zł
Studies, research, training (for the first 2 months)1,270 zł2,020 zł

Example: for one week in Poland, the draft would mean showing 7 × 300 = 2,100 zł. The money can also be in another currency at the exchange rate. It is not a fee: nobody takes it from you, you only need to have it or be able to prove you have it.

Who it does not apply to

Under the current rules (the MSWiA page "Warunki wjazdu i pobytu cudzoziemców w Polsce"), the money requirement does not apply if you cross the border on the basis of:

  • a visa for work (work visa);
  • a residence card (karta pobytu);
  • a visa for temporary protection;
  • a visa for family reunification under a temporary residence permit;
  • a visa under the Karta Polaka (Pole's Card) or a repatriation visa.

The reports on the draft do not say this list will change. We have not yet seen the full text of the draft: it would not open for us in the government register of draft laws. As soon as we read it, we will update this article.

When it could start to apply

  • 14.10.2026: the draft appeared on the MSWiA website (number 1351 in the government's legislative plan).
  • According to the justification quoted by Polish media, the regulation would take effect 30 days after its official publication.
  • There is no publication date yet, and the amounts in the draft may still change.

The ministry says the amounts have not changed since 2016 while prices have gone up, and that the new amounts are close to what other Schengen countries require.

What to do now

You do not need to pay anything. If you are coming to work, a legal basis for entry (a work visa, a residence card) frees you from the money requirement under the current rules. For some of our jobs, a coordinator helps with legal paperwork and the residence card. All our services are free for you. Profi Hand is an employment agency with KRAZ certificate 32053.

Frequently asked questions

How much money do I need to enter Poland now?

Now it is 300 zł for a trip of up to 4 days, or 75 zł for each day of a longer stay. The new amounts (1,000 zł and 300 zł a day) are only a draft so far.

Does it apply to people coming to work?

Under the current rules, no, if you enter on a work visa or with a residence card. The reports on the draft do not mention any change to these exemptions.

When could the change take effect?

30 days after the regulation is published. As of 18.10.2026 it has not been signed or published.

Do I have to pay this money at the border?

No. It is an amount you need to have with you or be able to prove (cash, a payment card, other documents). Nobody charges it.
