In short: 1 November 2026 (All Saints' Day, Wszystkich Świętych) falls on a Sunday. Under the Labour Code a holiday on a Sunday does not reduce working time, so there is no separate day off for it, and Monday 2 November is a normal working day. Headlines like "2 November is a day off, the Sejm has decided" are misleading: a Sejm committee rejected a petition about this on 13 May 2026, and the law has not changed. 11 November (Wednesday, Independence Day) is a day off and shops are closed. And for 26 December, which falls on a Saturday, the employer must give another day off.

For full-time work, November 2026 has 160 working hours (20 days of 8 hours): 1 November on a Sunday does not reduce the hours, 11 November reduces them by 8.

Why a Saturday holiday gives a day off and a Sunday one does not

That is what art. 130 § 2 of the Labour Code says: working time is reduced by 8 hours for every holiday that falls "on a day other than Sunday". A Saturday holiday reduces the hours, so the employer gives another free day for it. A Sunday holiday does not. The Można Lepiej foundation asked the Sejm to change this, but on 13 May 2026 the Petitions Committee rejected the petition after a negative opinion from the Labour Ministry. No work on a change is under way.

If you work on a holiday

Work on a holiday is allowed only in some cases, for example in continuous operations, shift work, transport, hotels and municipal services (art. 151¹⁰ of the Labour Code). What you are owed for such a day:

  • For working on 11 November the employer must give you another day off before the end of the settlement period. If that is not possible, you get a 100% supplement for each hour worked on the holiday (art. 151¹¹ § 1 and § 3).
  • For working on 1 November the Sunday rules apply (art. 151¹¹ § 4): another day off within 6 days before or after, otherwise by the end of the settlement period, and if that is not possible either, a 100% supplement for each hour.

If you work through an agency

On an umowa o pracę tymczasową (temporary employment contract) your employer is the agency, and labour law applies to it (art. 5 of the Temporary Employment Act). Is 2 November 2026 a day off?

No. It is a normal working day. It will be a day off only if your employer decides so (for example, by setting the day off for 26 December on it, within the same settlement period) or if you take leave.

Are shops open on 1 and 11 November?

No, trading in shops is banned on Sundays and holidays (art. 5 of the Act on restricting trade). There are exceptions, for example petrol stations, pharmacies, flower shops, and shops at stations and airports (art. 6).

I work on an umowa zlecenie. Do I get a day off for a holiday?

The Labour Code rules on days off and supplements do not apply to a zlecenie. Days off and holiday supplements exist only if they are written into the contract. Every hour worked must be paid, at least 31.40 zł gross in 2026.

How many working hours are there in November 2026?

160 hours for full-time work: 21 weekdays minus 11 November, 8 hours each.

What if I worked on a holiday and got neither a day off nor a supplement?

First ask your employer or agency: it is often a mistake in the records. If that does not help, the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) gives free advice on 801 002 006 or 459 599 000.
